Este aloanticuerpo se dirige contra un ant\u00edgeno del grupo sangu\u00edneo que no est\u00e1 presente en los gl\u00f3bulos rojos del receptor. Se trata de un proceso natural, ya que el cuerpo intenta defenderse de las sustancias extra\u00f1as. Este proceso se denomina aloinmunizaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las personas que viven con anemia falciforme (SCD) tienen la mayor prevalencia de aloinmunizaci\u00f3n de gl\u00f3bulos rojos (RBC) de todas las poblaciones estudiadas. Hasta un 40-50 % de las personas con SCD que reciben transfusiones forman aloanticuerpos contra los gl\u00f3bulos rojos a lo largo de su vida, en comparaci\u00f3n con menos del 5 % de la poblaci\u00f3n \u201cgeneral\u201d que recibe transfusiones. Debido a la frecuencia de las transfusiones necesarias, un paciente con SCD puede desarrollar m\u00faltiples aloanticuerpos a lo largo de su vida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los aloanticuerpos contra gl\u00f3bulos rojos pueden ser cl\u00ednicamente significativos en situaciones de transfusi\u00f3n y embarazo, ya que pueden provocar reacciones hemol\u00edticas o enfermedad hemol\u00edtica del feto y del reci\u00e9n nacido. Para evitar este tipo de reacciones, las unidades de gl\u00f3bulos rojos transfundidas deben ser negativas para los ant\u00edgenos con los que reaccionar\u00e1n los aloanticuerpos. Encontrar unidades de gl\u00f3bulos rojos compatibles para pacientes con anemia falciforme suele ser dif\u00edcil y, en ocasiones, imposible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuando un paciente con anemia falciforme desarrolla m\u00faltiples anticuerpos, resulta mucho m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil encontrar unidades para transfusiones. Algunas de las combinaciones de ant\u00edgenos m\u00e1s comunes para los pacientes con anemia falciforme en nuestra zona solo se encuentran en menos del 11 % de las unidades de donantes aleatorios. Varias de las combinaciones que suministramos solo se encuentran en 1 de cada 1000 donantes aleatorios.
